🆕 Enhancement releases

We've been busy! Here's a sneak peek at our November 2024 new features and improvements:

Group Responses by Sections

We added a way for teachers to display their students responses by the sections they have created on their formatives. This allows teachers a way to review student performance on each section of the formative separately.

To accommodate for this new addition, we consolidated all three "group by" options (by questions, by standards, by sections) into one dropdown menu:

  • Group by Questions - display student performance on each individual question. Questions will appear in ascending numeric order.

  • Group by Standards - display student performance on each tagged standard and sub-standard. You can view how students performed on each question tagged to the standard as well as the average performance of each student on the standard as a whole.

  • Group by Sections - display student performance on each defined section of the formative. You can view how students performed on each individual question within the section as well as the average performance of each student on the section as a whole.

Students can highlight words/sentences within a Text content item, Paired Passages, and/or the text instructions on individual questions. By selecting the desired section of characters a highlighter tool will appear for the students to select from 4 possible colors. The Highlighter Tool fully supports touch devices too!

We added a new Learning Tool to the Assign Settings modal that allows teachers to enable / disable students' access to browser-based spell check functions on the specific formative being assigned. Disabling the spell check feature will prevent the red line indicator from appearing underneath the misspelled word.

Additional Paired-Passages

Historically Paired Passages supported only 2 passages. Now, this content item can support up to 4 passages!

By default, when generating a paired-passages item, 2 passages will be created. Teachers needing additional passages will click the 'Add Passage' button to add up to 2 additional ones.

Retakes on Common Assessments

We added the ability for admins to allow Retakes on Common Assessments from the Common Assessments Global Settings panel. Admins will be able to select between restricting the Common Assessment to one attempt only, or setting it on 'user preference' which will allow the assigning teachers to select anywhere between 1 to 4 attempts when assigning to their classes.

Enhancements to the Graphing Question

We’re excited to introduce an improvement to our graphing tool: adjustable asymptotes!
With this update, you can now drag the asymptote directly on the graph to reflect variations in your exponential functions, making it easier to model and visualize real-world scenarios. This enhancement broadens our graphing capabilities, allowing for:

  • Dynamic exploration of horizontal asymptotes in exponential growth/decay.

  • Interactive learning for students to understand transformations in function behavior.

  • Simplified lesson preparation for teachers modeling advanced concepts.

Student Instructions on Practice Sets

Teachers and Students can now add instructions to practice sets that they have created. When students launch the assigned practice set, they will see the instructions on the first page. Instructions can by styled using the styling bar and include content items too.

Filter Library by Star Rating

The Formative library can now be sorted / filtered based on star ratings awarded to items.

Improved Standards Filter in Library

The standards filter in the library is automatically adjusted if a standard set is not selected, simplifying resource browsing for teachers.

Enhanced Student Dashboard for Scores

The student dashboard now prominently indicates when scores are available, ensuring students have immediate feedback on their progress.

🤖 Beta and Early Access Features Updates

The below features have been added to our list of future features teachers can opt-in to test with us:

Assign to Student Groups (Beta)

We added a feature that enables teachers to create performance-based groupings within a class, which in turn allows the teacher to assign formatives to a selected group (or more) in one go (similar to 'assign to individual students' only with pre-set groups). Learn all about Student Groups here!

🛠️ Fixes

Every technological tool runs into hiccups here and there. If you run into any technical issues please submit a report to our team so we could go ahead and fix it!

Question/Section Linking for Teachers

Teachers can once again link students to specific questions or sections, providing targeted guidance and supporting differentiated learning.

Archived Class Data in Summary Report

For clearer reporting, archived class data will be visible, especially useful for end-of-course assessments that require post-course analysis.

Locked Browser Feature for Google Classroom Add-On

Teachers assigning formative assessments via Google Classroom are now guided to use 'Post to Google' or a direct link for the locked browser feature to function seamlessly.

Practice Activities in Recent Activities Shelf

Practice activities are now displayed on the “Recent Activities” shelf, helping teachers keep track of their most recent practice work.
