FAQ and Troubleshooting

🙋🏽 My students are having trouble recording, what do we do?

They may need to allow camera, audio, and microphone permissions within their browser. If they are taking the formative within the Formative's Add-on for Google Classroom, video recording is not supported and they will need to navigate to Formative's main website to record their response.

🙋🏿‍♂️ How can I view student responses?

On the View Responses page, you select a student, play and pause the video, see how long the recording is, adjust the volume, and view the video in a separate window.

🙋🏽‍♀️ I'm having trouble viewing the responses, what do I do?

You may need to allow camera, audio, and microphone permissions within your browser.

🙋🏼 How can my students post videos that are longer than 10 minutes?

Students can post videos that are longer than 10 minutes by uploading to YouTube or Vimeo, or Google Drive and posting in response to our Free Response question type.

🙋🏽 I assigned a timed formative and the timer ran out while my student was recording video responses. Their response did not save.

Since once the timer runs out the formative automatically closes, any responses that are not fully added at that time will not be saved. This includes audio responses, video responses, or any other file uploads that have not yet finished to process and get added into the formative. Best practice would be to instruct your student to pay attention to the timer countdown and submit what they were able to record/upload a few seconds prior to the timer running out. You could re-open the assignment for the individual student after it closes to allow them to make changes and add any responses they didn't have time to complete.
